Host a meal to remember this Christmas
December is almost upon us. In the sea of busy consumerism that can sometimes surround it, the true meaning of Christmas can become a little lost. Make the festive season a time for giving and celebrate with the people you love. This year, why not help those less fortunate by hosting a Caritas Christmas Kitchen event?
A meal to remember
The philosophy at the heart of Caritas Kitchen is: 'serve good food for a good cause'. It's as simple as choosing a date for your event, registering it and creating a fundraising page. Then you can put your host pack to good use and prepare for your Caritas Christmas event.
Your Caritas Christmas event can take any form – a workplace lunch with your colleagues, a family dinner, a weekend meal with friends, or a gathering with neighbours. It's about sharing a meal and time together and helping raise awareness and funds for some of the world's most vulnerable people.
Inspiration aplenty
Need a little inspiration? Take your cue from people and organisations across Australia who have hosted (or attended) wonderful Caritas Kitchen events this year, such as:
St Francis Xavier Box Hill
Over 30 parishioners attended the St Francis Xavier Box Hill event where each attendee brought a dish from their country of origin, along with a donation of $10. Sister Margaret Fyfe from Caritas Australia – who was the evening's guest speaker – told stories of how the funds raised from the event would help feed communities in need around the world.
Curry-tas at Caritas Head Office
The Caritas Australia head office in Sydney hosted its own unique Curry-tas event. Put together by their Communications team (who each contributed a curry), Caritas staff enjoyed a meal from the tasty curry buffet for a $5 donation each.
Inventive individuals
- Elizabeth from New South Wales cooked all the recipes in the host pack for her family and friends.
- Pauline from Queensland took a DIY approach to her menu. She included recipes from places like Haiti and Malacca, sharing her creations with family and friends.
- Janeen and her friends from Western Australia dressed up in traditional attire reflecting the country of the dish they cooked.
CCI is proud to support Catholic community initiatives such as Caritas Kitchen. Will you be hosting an event?
